Inspired by tiny NYC studios and a generation that rather rent than buy.

This small sofa is big enough for two people to sit comfortably but not big enough to create a fire hazard in your apartment.

One arm is a bit wider to fit a small bookshelf. There is a drop leaf table off of the back that you can use as a desk or somewhere to eat. You can bring it up when needed and put it away when you need more space.

Inspired by a friend who has melanoma of the eye, I designed a booklight that would be strong enough for her to read in the dark without affecting her husbands sleep.

After some research I learned that the backlit screens on our computers, cell phones, and tablets is lit by a blue LED which actually reduces the melatonin in our bodies. Melatonin is a hormone that affects how tired we get. Natural sunlight reduces our melatonin naturally which keeps us energized through the day, but when the sun goes down our melatonin should increase making us tired.

Because of an increase in mobile devices with backlit screens many people now have melatonin deficiencies which can cause side effects such as: migraines, diabetes type 2, alzheimer's disease, dementia, and even some forms of cancer.

Red and green LEDs affect the body's melatonin much less than blue LEDs. Red light does not dilate the pupil allowing a person to use a red light without affecting eyes that have already adjusted to the dark.

What separates my booklight from those that already exist is that it contains a red light that is perfect for reading before bed and a blue light for daytime reading during travel.
